SYDNEY, Feb 8 AAP - Madame Pedrille will be on trial for a Group One assignment in South Australia when she lines up in Saturday's Breeders Classic at Randwick.

Newcastle trainer Darren Smith is eyeing off the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on March 8 if the five-year-old measures up as he expects.

Madame Pedrille is racing first-up in the Group Two 1200-metre Breeders Classic after an 18-week spell.

Smith has also just returned after serving a ban for a drug related offence.

Madame Pedrille galloped between races at Newcastle on Saturday and won an 800 metre barrier trial at Wyong on January 28 by 4-1/2 lengths.

Smith is pleased with the mares build-up to Saturday's race which has attracted 17 nominations.

"She's had two solid hit-outs and will improve a lot from Saturday but she should still be competitive," Smith said.

"It looks quiet a strong race but we're hoping she runs well and then we can send her over for the Robert Sangster Stakes."

The Secret Savings mare has not raced since her fourth to Illuminates in the Listed Angst Stakes (1400m) on a heavy track at Randwick last October.

One week earlier Madame Pedrille edged out Breeders rival Strawberry Field by a nose in Listed Nivison (1200m) at Randwick.

Madame Pedrille's last campaign kicked off with a comfortable victory in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill last August.

A couple of weeks later it took top Sydney mare Hot Danish to her prevent her from winning the Group Three Research Stakes in which Madame Pedrille was a half length second.

Chris Munce, who was aboard the mare in her recent trial and rode her in all four starts last preparation, will be aboard again hoping to extend his record of four wins from seven rides.

Nominations for the Breeders Classic include the Clarry Conners-trained last start Carrington Stakes (1100m) winner Court.

The four-year-old was impressive when she flew home to defeat Prince Braeman by 1-3/4 lengths in the Carrington Stakes at Randwick on New Year's Day.

She was scratched from Saturday's Expressway Stakes because of the heavy track and has also been entered for the Southern Cross Stakes.

Group One-placed Prima Nova is also among the nominations for both races after she too was scratched from the Expressway.

The five-year-old has not raced since her seventh to Purple in the Group Two Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington last November.

Trainer Anthony Cummings gave the mare two barrier trials last month with her most recent effort a fifth to Dreamscape over 850 metres at Randwick on January 29.
