Wild finish as wayward 2YO causes three-horse collision at Mackay
There was a wild finish to Race 4 at Mackay on Friday, as a two-year-old went wayward to wreak havoc on a couple of rivals.
Two-year-old gelding Head Honcho ($2.45) hit the front in the home straight, looking for win No.2 at start No.9 in the Cheryl Green Spray Tanning Mackay Classic QTIS 2YO Handicap (1200m).
But the son of Headwater threw away the race in dramatic fashion, running off the track to cause a collision with each of Dance For Me Randy ($2.30F) and Electric Brae ($3.30).
Credit to all jockeys involved as they all stayed in the saddle despite the heavy interference, with Ryan Wiggins aboard Head Honcho, Ashley Butler on Dance For Me Randy and Scott Sheargold aboard Electric Brae.
Dance For Me Randy was the meat in the sandwich but emerged first past the post ahead of Head Honcho - who was relegated to third after connections of Electric Brae, unsurprisingly, threw in a third-versus-second objection.

Head Honcho had gone past Dance For Me Randy earlier in the straight, but was wobbling about like a drunken sailor and those manners cost them the race - but luckily, there were no further repercussions as the participants emerged unscathed.
No doubt the stewards' report might have more fallout in the coming days, with Head Honcho a chance to be sent back to the trials to work on his manners.
