Top jockey Jason Collett has been taken to hospital for further assessment after falling from his mount in The Warra Class 1 & Maiden Plate (2000m) at Kembla on Tuesday.

Collett was aboard the Annabel Neasham-trained Hiawatha as the field turned into the home straight, attempting a run between Just Immortal and Verbatim Quote when Hiawatha appeared to clip a heel and fall.

Collett remained conscious during the incident before getting to his feet and walking to the ambulance.

"He was complaining of soreness in his left hand and left shoulder, also his lower back and left hip," acting chief steward Chris Albrect said.

"He's also got a few lacerations.

"We've adjourned an inquiry into the incident until Jason is available to give his evidence."

Collett's manager Bryan Haskins spoke to his wife Clare who spoke to Jason en route to Wollongong Hospital and he told his wife "he thinks it's only bruising".

Collett was stood down from the remaining four rides on the program.

On Saturday, he's booked to ride Ceolwulf in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Arctic Glamour in the Queen Of The Turf and Piplup in the Australian Oaks.

Last weekend, on the opening day of The Championships, Collett won the Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes aboard Manaal.

Stewards also reported Hiawatha avoided injury in the fall.
